On Sept. 10, Cambodian authorities deported Gottfried Svartholm Warg, Swedish co-founder of the controversial file-sharing site The Pirate Bay, to Sweden, where he faces court charges of copyright violations. Bun Tharum, a technology reporter and VOA Khmer contributor, says the arrest serves as a reminder that there will be consequences to those who conduct illegal activities online. At the same time, the subsequent retaliative hacking of government websites also exposes the security vulnerabilities of those going after such cases. In this “Digital Voices” segment, he discusses with VOA Khmer’s Soeung Sophat what the arrest would mean to Cambodian Internet users.
